Now in its third year, the Lee-Harvard Block Party continues to celebrate the foundations of a strong and connected community. In 2023, we honored the local businesses that shaped our neighborhood (“Stores”). In 2024, we celebrated the schools that nurtured generations of leaders. This year, our theme is “Streets”—the paths that connect our lives, stories, and histories. Each theme reflects an essential element of what makes Lee-Harvard a resilient and vibrant community.

Over the course of nearly five decades, this community has grappled with disinvestment. In a collaborative effort involving the City of Cleveland, the Cleveland City Council, the Harvard Community Service Center, and the expertise of APD Urban Planning, the Lee-Harvard Master Plan is taking shape. Preserving this neighborhood's distinct identity is paramount, making it crucial for long-standing residents and supporters to contribute their voices and visions for the neighborhood's future.
The inaugural Lee-Harvard Block Party drew more than 200 attendees from neighboring suburbs and even other states. This vibrant event featured live music, an array of food trucks, engaging children's games, and a showcase of small business vendors. Resilient Lee is a yearlong initiative designed to bring together the historically connected neighborhoods of Lee-Harvard (Cleveland) and Shaker Heights. Through storytelling, community events, intergenerational dialogue, and shared cultural experiences, Resilient Lee strengthens relationships, repairs historic divides, and empowers residents to build a collective future.

Led by the City of Shaker Heights Culture & Engagement Department, the Lee-Harvard Memorial Project, the Shaker Heights Library, and the Shaker Historical Society, this collaboration honors our shared history while fostering unity, belonging, and long-term community investment.

Our Purpose
For nearly five decades, the relationship between Lee-Harvard and Shaker Heights has been shaped by the 1976 barricades installed at Avalon/E.173rd and Ingleside/E.177th—structures that many residents interpreted as dividing the two communities. With major revitalization underway along Harvard and Lee Road, this is a pivotal moment to build new connections rooted in healing and shared vision.

Resilient Lee is committed to:
-
Advancing racial equity and community healing
-
Strengthening grassroots partnerships
-
Celebrating shared heritage and future community investment
-
Demonstrating visible leadership in bridging historic divides
-
Supporting meaningful youth–elder engagement
-
Promoting long-term collaboration across neighborhoods

Resilient Lee is not just about remembering the past—it is about transforming the future.
